What is the Midlands Co-operative Society?

The Midlands Co-operative Society is owned and democratically controlled by its members. By joining the Society, you will become a co-owner of a multi-million pound business, which will give you the right to have your say in how the business is run. Members can become involved in the affairs of the Society at every level, from shopping with us regularly to standing for the Board of Directors. Every member has the democratic right to have a say in how the business runs, by attending twice yearly Members’ Meetings, voting in elections or by standing for election yourself.

Why join?

We have a Members Card scheme, which awards you 10 points for every £1 spent with Midlands Co-op in Food, Non-Food and Funeral, and one point for every £1 spent on Travel and vehicle purchases. For every 1000 points that you accumulate, we will give you £1 of vouchers back, in May and October. Furthermore, these points are used to determine the size of the dividend that you receive, with the board of Directors recommending a dividend value per point.

We have a number of exclusive events for members, bringing people together with a wide range of recreational groups and activities.

We have biannual member discount days.

Getting involved

Your first opportunity to get involved in the democracy of Midlands Co-operative Society is at biannual members' meetings, held in April and October, at eleven sites across our trading area. The Society publishes Annual and Interim reports, which can be obtained at selected branches prior to the meetings or you can request these to be posted direct to your home. You can participate in the meeting; questions are invited on the report, and both directors and management are present to answer. Afterwards there's an opportunity to get together informally with fellow members. You may also cast your vote to elect representatives to your local member relations committee and regional committee. Votes can also be cast at local Society stores prior to the Annual Meeting. We have a number of events taking place in your area.
